Learn with us about how to create better exposures, and gain the confidence to shoot better images

The workshops are being run by myself John Bentley and Janet Broughton of http://definitelydreaming.com/

Whilst we have a very different style of photography we share the same philosophy and approach to photography and value the aesthetics of the final image above the need for technical perfection. We will not baffle you with equipment and technology. Neither will we tell you that there is only one correct approach, instead we will help you to discover the settings that suit your way of working and the subject you want to photograph.

Beginners Photography Workshops – Understanding Your DSLR

Do you own a lovely DSLR camera that you mostly use in Auto Mode?

Are you confused by all the settings and a little disappointed with your pictures?

Why not join us on one of our Photography Workshops for DSLR beginners at BL6 Studios in Horwich. You will have the support of two experienced photographers to introduce you to the basics of digital photography and teach you all about your camera’s settings.

At the end of this full day workshop, you will have the knowledge to shoot in manual if you choose to and an understanding of when and why you might choose to use a different mode. We will cover a variety of topics over the two sessions including:

  • Why you can expect limited results in Auto but when its OK to use it.
  • Taking control of focusing.
  • How choosing your aperture affects your images.
  • How shutter speeds affect your images.
  • The relationship between the three elements of the exposure triangle.
  • How your camera exposes an image and how to over ride the exposure.
  • How to shoot in manual mode but why it’s not essential.

This is very much a hands on workshop, you will be practicing each element as it is explaned, and with two trainers who share a similar approach to photography everyone will receive individual assistance as needed.

After completing the course with John and Janet I have so much much more confidence with my camera. I think an informal and humorous approach is perfect and any technical terms were fully explained with patience and clarity. I would highly recommend this course for anyone who is just starting out in photography, but also for those wanting to take it to the next level.

Just finished the beginners photography course with John and Janet and can’t recommend it enough! Informal but informative tuition that was pretty much bespoke to what I was trying to achieve with my photography. Thank you for having me. 😀

I went on the course back in November of this year. An excellent course, where I learned more about my camera. I’m now enjoying photographing without fear. Highly recommend the course for beginners and improvers
