John Bentley

Portrait Artist

I’ve shot for artists, corporate clients, family, charity, inspirational women and now I’m looking to shoot for YOU the actor.

Are you looking for that connection with your next casting session? If so why not try me John Bentley and my studio fourTwographs here in Bolton Town Centre.

Just under 1/2 mile from the Bolton Interchange or just 400 yards from the end on the A666 St Peters Way here in Bolton. Right next door to the Holiday Inn

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT AT MY SESSION?

You should expect a relaxed environment with good tea or coffee ( water/juice if you prefer ) along with crazy friendly banter.

You don’t have to be mad in our sessions, but it helps. Maybe chat about your answers to the questionnaire you fill in below – don’t worry, they are pretty poor questions you have to answer. Take a look via the button below. You can always turn back if you want to.

Once you’ve gotten used to my silliness we start to shoot. I’ll be encouraging throughout the shoot with asking you for a particular look/expression/thought. I may even nip to the little boys room and leave you to chat with my assistant about my boyish behaviour. Or maybe just let you look through the shots we have taken thus far.

I really need you to speak up and tell me what you’re loving and hating – so don’t pull any punches. I can take it. After all, this is all about you.

After we have done the shoot, we will sit down and have another brew ( maybe chocolates too or a beer ) and take a gander at what we have created together. This is where you get to bin the terrible ones before I snapshot them for social media ( I like to show the world your crazy look )

The ones you think are keepers will be tweaked for colour balance and contrast, before we upload them to your own personal online gallery. Here you get to choose the ones that you definitely want to have edited. You favourite them and then ring/text or email what extra mile you want us to go to with removing that spinach from your teeth or that stray hair on the chin.

We edit and then send to you for digital download. SIMPLES INNIT!

Very relaxed and friendly environment with very professional results. Loved both times I have been photographed by John and would definitely recommend!

Made to feel so much at ease and relaxed actually enjoyed the photo shoot and that is a very strong compliment as I don’t like my photo being taken
Would definitely recommend John

Yes he is a bit crazy, but the best people in this world are. He captures something in his photos that is completely unique – the person!

Some serious encouragement we go through on your session.

COME ON NOW!

Try paying more attention to yourself.

After The Holiday

Ted and Chimp are back to their usual happy selves after pining for John ( the portrait artist ) whilst he and Julia had a well earned holiday on the beautiful Isle of Skye.

They did a pretty good job of clearing up after the party’s too, don’t think anyone noticed guys 😉

We had a photoshoot in the studio with a lovely lady by the name of Carole on Tuesday. Read more about her charity here pawsforkids

Lots of catching up of the usual necessaries. Paperwork, cleaning, emailing etc. Luckily to break the monotony of said chores John and Julia are off on location to Cheshire on Monday 15/10/2018 to do a photoshoot.

A visit from Kintsugi Wabi Sabi

Meet the artist Chris Fittock

Today in the Fourtwographs studio Ted and Chimp had a visit from Kintsugi Wabi Sabi. Unsure how to pronounce his name they referred to him as ‘Chris’. Chris was here to have his website picture updated. After a brief discussion, over coffee, the shooting commenced. The backdrop was our black wall, in front of which was placed a ladder and a stack of suitcases, all of which were covered with a painted canvas. Some of Chris’s beautiful pottery was placed on top. A stool set off to the right for Chris to sit on, whilst holding another piece of his work. John shot with his usual one light and the reflector, expertly managed by Ted this was used towards the end to add a little extra light. John took 20 pictures, 2 were selected for use.The whole session lasted for about an hour. Ted and Chimp are having a well earned rest after holding the reflector for John during the shoot.

Kintsugi is an ancient Japanese art. They believed that rather than throw out a broken piece of pottery it could be restored and made more beautiful than before. This is done using precious metals such as gold, silver and platinum to repair the damage, be it a crack or a missing section.

The Gothmother

The Gothmother

The Gothmother

It was the day of my booked Mother and Son photo shoot with John and everything was great from the start. Before I even got into the room it was very easy to get there with my son’s big pram. When I got there my son was asleep so John offered me a beverage while we signed papers and discussed the shoot for the day.

John had booked in extra time for me because, well babies can be difficult sometimes. Before any photos had been taken John and my son, Daegan, 4 months old, began bonding and he took a shine to John straight away. The room was lovely and there was a lot of soft material options to lay Daegan on and make him feel comfortable. John even went the extra mile and turned the heating up before we even arrived so that Daegan would comfortable in more natural poses while un-dressed.

Daegan was very happy the entire time during the shoot apart from when he got a bit hungry, John was perfectly fine with this and let us take a time out to feed him. We then took the opportunity of him napping after his bottle for some sweet, precious mother and baby cuddling shots which were lovely.

These were on a lounging couch which i lay across with him on my chest asleep as I would do at home. This is the exact thing John captures in his photos. Just natural, raw humans and their connection. After a few natural pictures were taken we began to pose him with some of his favourite teddies as John suggested to bring.

Even though i was holding him up with his teddies John made the pictures look great. Then came the beautiful floor photos. Daegan lay on blankets and i curled around him and John got some beautiful bird’s eye view pictures of this, as well as entertaining Daegan at the same time.

The last scene was Daegan in a suitcase which may i say was ADORABLE. The vintage suitcase was laying open flat with lots of blankets inside to make it cosy. He fit in there perfectly. Some shots were in his vest and then the last ones were of him naked and they were all so lovely and pure.

After the shoot finished Daegan began to get a bit frustrated and got upset, John actually offered to cheer him up while i packed Daegan’s stuff away and John was walking around the room chatting away to him. Once i had finished John was showing Daegan previews on his screen which i was very excited about because all of them were stunning. At the end I began putting Daegan in his pram ready to leave and i was actually offered to be walked out with Daegan by one of John’s associates as it had gotten a bit dark. I was waited with until my taxi arrived and helped to get him in the car.

An all-round amazing, care-free and happy experienced.

Investing in photography – why should I choose a professional photographer?

Investing in photography – why should I choose a professional photographer?

When you look around the walls of your home, what would you like to see?

Many people choose to decorate their homes with portraiture of their family and loved ones and it is this that can help to turn a house into a home, giving you a place that you want to spend time. A quality portrait should be attractive to the eye and impress the mind and as a professional photographer, it is John’s opinion that wall hung legacy portraiture is one of the most important pieces of home furniture you could invest in, and that is something that he has chosen to specialise in. His style is to create photographic art, whether that be for the home or for the office, and fourTwographs is one of the North West’s most diversified portraiture studios.

When investing in photography for your home, there are many things which you need to consider. Where in the home will it hang, and what kind of size is best suited there? What colouring needs to be used to complement the existing decor? What kind of location or background would you like to be used in the picture? But ultimately, what will make it feel personal to yourself? If you’re having pictures taken of your children or your family, dress in a way that will express how you are as a family, i.e. smart casual, or if you’re all mad on a certain sport or hobby, can you represent that and still look polished. These are all things that you can discuss here at fourTwographs, and John can help you to create the look you want, and even provide you with ideas you may not have thought of. Working together will allow you to beautifully depict your loved ones in the best way.

Furthermore, taking the time and money to invest in an independent professional photography company like fourTwographs means that the end result will be polished and perfected to a high standard, and should you then buy through the studio, you’re guaranteed that the prints or canvas will provide the ideal photographic legacy for your home for many years to come.

Coming Soon… #WhiteShirt!

Coming Soon… #WhiteShirt!

For anyone who has spoken to John and asked him what next, as I know a few people have, I’m sure you’ll have heard whisperings of #WhiteShirt.

Well, let’s put the rumours to rest. As of June the 22nd (did you expect any other date?!) project #WhiteShirt will officially begin!

So, what’s it all about? Well as the name suggests, it will require participants to have their picture taken in a white shirt – 222 people to be exact. Bet you didn’t see that number coming! What the subject does with the shirt will be up to them. Wear it normally, wear it backwards, wear it on your head, let your imagination run wild! The idea is for all 222 to use the same white shirt, but John has promised to wash it – occasionally!

Now, unlike Project22, this one will be undertaken as a spare time project and requires participants to pay a fee to take part, currently set at £111. A large chunk of this fee will be put into a pot to raise money for local based domestic abuse charity, Fortalice, with the aim being to raise around a staggering £12,000! Definitely worth the fee if you ask me! According to the Fortalice website, every year they have a shortfall in funding of around £85,000. A donation of £12,000 could help to redecorate 40 one bedroom flats at £300 a time, or provide 244 sessions of 1-1 support for a child affected by domestic abuse.

Also included with the fee will be the cost of a 24x16″ fine art print which will be signed and embossed by John, just in case (in his own words) it’ll be worth something after his death – cheerful! Shoots will last roughly one hour and there are plans for both indoor and outdoor locations.

So, for anyone who is desperately interested and intent to put their name down to be one of the 222, please get in contact for further information!
