If you are having a MUA with your photoshoot then please consider these few pointers to make the job and your look the best it can be.

  1. Clean faces please – Often women will either forget that their MUA will be applying foundation, don’t feel comfortable leaving the house without it, or simply don’t realize that they should come to their appointment without any makeup. This means no foundation, no primer, no mascara — nothing!
  2. Clean hair – Try to have your hair washed and FREE from all products before the day of your photoshoot. No hairsprays or gels please
  3. Silence Is Golden – the MUA is going to be doing their best to create clean, crisp lines for you and the camera, and nothing is more difficult than applying makeup to a moving face. Chat first, then take a verbal break while your MUA applies lipstick, and other delicate details like eyeliner and mascara.
  4. Know what you want – start a conversation about your goals before the MUA starts to create your look based on her opinions. That being said, all of the makeup in the world can’t undo years or months of skin damage in one sitting. Plan on having an open and honest discussion with your MUA before she begins, and be realistic and accepting of what she tells you her limits might be. If she says something won’t work out, trust her. They are not trying to hold back — they wants you to love the end results.
  5. Please be honest and speak up – The MUA genuinely wants you to be happy. If there is any part of the look they are creating you are unhappy with, let them know immediately.

Have some patience in the process — things might not look the way you expect in the middle of your makeover, but talk to your MUA about your expectations. If things are clearly going in an unplanned direction, speak up. The last thing either of you want is to walk away with regrets, and the only way to prevent that is clear communication. After all it is your money that pays for the correct look and final images.

FINALLY

If you are attending the shoot with intentions of having images captured with your shoulders/cleavage then PLEASE TRY NOT to wear a bra that day or at the very least wear a strapless one. This will help to eliminate the visible appearance of strap lines. Bring a bra with you but please only put it on just before the shoot.

If you are intending showing your legs or belly/hips, again, please consider loose fitting undergarments and leggings. All these will help eliminate any lines that will need to be removed later. Not every image taken can be photoshopped to look fantastic.
Please tell the photographer before your booking if there is any particular image you are looking to create at the photo session and then he can speak to you and advise you on any problems that can be avoided.

Thank you for reading and understanding these simple pointers.

Kindest Regards John Bentley

Portfolio Building – Model Days – Part One

Portfolio Building – Model Days – Part One

This weekend was a great weekend for portfolio building.

Every so often we have ( casting calls )model days here at the Studios.

What generally happens is, the person ( you do not need to be a model to enlist with us ) looking to become established will get in touch with me and see if I have any free dates that we can work on to create new images. This was one of those days.

I have worked with this model several times before on building her portfolio as well as mine. The model will get in touch with me to say they are looking to enhance their portfolio of images in order to gain more recognition and in the long run more paid work – we do from time to time put out a casting call for models to enlist on our database.

Back to today and our model was looking to have a new set of outdoor images created. The weather was forecast sunny through to teatime. We wanted to create something with a fashion edge so headed out to the moors with a pair of 80’s jeans and a summer dress. Below are the results.

As you can see from the images the weather was great and we started to get some great images. Until that is, the black clouds headed our way – earlier than the weather app stated 🙁
